The prevailing winds blow west to east over much of the mid-latitudes of both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. This includes North America, Europe, and Asia in the Northern Hemisphere, and South America, Africa, and Australia in the Southern Hemisphere. These winds are known as the westerlies.
