Passage 1

"I love life here on the farm. Nothing compares to watching crops I planted myself grow tall and strong. Eating food fresh from the garden is a treat city folks may never experience. I find caring for the animals very satisfying. Sometimes I like their company more than other people. Farming is hard work for sure, but I wouldn't have it any other way. My children are growing up strong, independent, and healthy. I hope that someday my grandchildren will love the farm as much as I do." from Great Grandmother's Journal

Passage 2

I remember hearing stories about my great-grandmother and her years on the farm. After her husband died, my great-grandmother managed the farm by herself while raising three children. She was good with animals and was almost as skilled as a vet when it came to taking care of them. Great-grandmother decided what to plant and when it should be harvested. I've been told that her pies made with apples from the orchard and berries from the nearby woods regularly won prizes at the state fair. I wish I could have met this amazing woman.
