Portfolio Reflect
You have analyzed the informational text Perfectly Imperfect. Your study has included determining an author’s purpose and point of view, and distinguishing how authors set their positions apart from other points of view. Now, reflect on your own responses to the issues raised in the text. Did your own point of view on that issue change over the course of your analysis?

Throughout my analysis of Perfectly Imperfect, my own point of view on the issue did not change significantly. The text structure of the informational text consisted of a cause and effect pattern. I identified this structure by noticing the sequence of events presented in the text, where the author described various imperfections and their consequences. The author's choice of structure helped me as a reader by allowing me to easily understand the relationship between the different imperfections and their effects. It enabled me to see the bigger picture and comprehend the overall message of the text.

Regarding the author's purpose and point of view, it was evident that the author's purpose was to emphasize the beauty and value of imperfections. By sharing personal anecdotes and experiences, the author conveyed a positive and accepting point of view towards imperfections. I determined this by analyzing the author's choice of language, tone, and examples used throughout the text. Considering the author's purpose and point of view helped me understand the topic by providing a different perspective on imperfections. It challenged my preconceived notions and encouraged me to appreciate imperfections in a new light.

In terms of distinguishing the author's position from other positions, the text made it clear that the author focused on embracing imperfections rather than trying to change or hide them. This was highlighted through the author's emphasis on self-acceptance and self-love. The author distinguished their position by highlighting the societal pressure to be perfect and offering a contrasting viewpoint that celebrated imperfections. This allowed me to recognize the potential impact of societal standards and norms on individuals' self-esteem and encouraged a shift in my thinking towards embracing imperfections. For example, the author discussed how society often promotes unrealistic beauty standards, and by doing so, made me consider the harmful effects of such expectations.

Overall, analyzing Perfectly Imperfect helped me gain a deeper understanding of the significance of imperfections and encouraged me to shift my perspective towards embracing them. The author's text structure, purpose, and point of view all played crucial roles in guiding my analysis and enabling me to develop a more informed viewpoint on the topic. Despite my initial point of view remaining relatively unchanged, the analysis allowed me to appreciate the importance of accepting imperfections in ourselves and others.
