Newton's second law states that the acceleration of an object is directly proportional to the net force acting on it and inversely proportional to its mass. When an animal is running, the force of the ground pushing back on its feet is greater than the force of gravity pulling it down, resulting in an acceleration. This acceleration is a direct result of Newton's second law.
