Find the equation of the line that is perpendicular y=3/5x-4 that passes through the point (-1,3)
I forgot how to do this. Please help
Recall that perpendicular lines have slopes that are negative reciprocals of each other.
so the slope of the given line is 3/5
then the slope of the new line is -5/3
new equation: y = (-5/3)x + b
but (-1,3) lies on it, so
3 = (-5/3)(-1) + b
b = 3 - 5/3 = 4/3
new line: y = (-5/3)x + 4/3
