The following data represent what 18 people said when they were asked to estimate the crowd at a public gathering:
325 450 500 500 550 575 575 600 600
650 650 700 700 700 725 750 800 900
State the mean, mode, median
Mean:
325+450+500+500+550+575+575+600+ 600+650+650+700+700+700+725+750+800+900/18 = 625
Median: Is it 600 or 700-550=625? If so why? :S I don't understand it...
Mode: 700
Can someone verify if it is correct or wrong?
Thanks
The median is the number between the two in the middle. Half way between 600 and 650 = 625.

Just to clarify, 18/2= 9 therefore its in position 9 and 10? then add up and divided by two again? This is only for an even number of data right?
Right.
You could have added 600 and 650 and divided by 2 to get 625.
To calculate the mean, add up all the numbers and divide by the total count:
325 + 450 + 500 + 500 + 550 + 575 + 575 + 600 + 600 + 650 + 650 + 700 + 700 + 700 + 725 + 750 + 800 + 900 = 11,225
Mean = 11,225 / 18 = 623.61
So, the mean is approximately 623.61.
To find the median, first arrange the numbers in ascending order:
325, 450, 500, 500, 550, 575, 575, 600, 600, 650, 650, 700, 700, 700, 725, 750, 800, 900
Since there are 18 numbers, the median will be the middle number. In this case, the middle number is the 9th number:
600
Therefore, the median is 600.
The mode is the value that appears most frequently in the data set. In this case, the number 700 appears three times, which is more than any other number, so the mode is 700.
So, the answers are:
Mean: 623.61
Median: 600
Mode: 700
You correctly calculated the mode, but your median value of 625 seems to be incorrect. The median is the middle value when the data is arranged in order, not the difference between the two middle values.
