16. What was the effect of the green revolution?

Unit 5 Lesson 5, Topic 7 Lesson 5

The green revolution had several effects, including an increase in agricultural productivity through the use of high-yielding crop varieties, improved irrigation techniques, and the use of fertilizers and pesticides. This led to a significant increase in food production and helped alleviate hunger and poverty in many parts of the world. However, there were also negative consequences such as environmental degradation due to the overuse of chemicals and water resources, loss of biodiversity, and increased dependence on expensive inputs which marginalized small farmers. Overall, the green revolution had both positive and negative impacts on agriculture and society.
