After Texas became a U.S. state, many Tejanos faced pressure to assimilate into the dominant Anglo-American culture, leading some to abandon elements of their own culture in order to assimilate. However, some Tejanos chose to practice cultural accommodation by maintaining their cultural practices while also adapting to the new dominant culture.
