In the video, humans have reduced the amount of available fresh water by overuse, pollution and building dams on natural waterways. 1. What is at least one reason that a dam would be built in the first place? 2. What is at least one negative impact that the dam has on the environment (living or nonliving)? 3. Do you agree with the way they handeled the problem with the Elwha Dam in the video? Explain your answer.

1. One reason a dam would be built is to generate hydroelectric power. Dams can harness the power of flowing water to generate electricity for homes and businesses.

2. One negative impact of a dam on the environment is the disruption of natural habitats and ecosystems. Dams can block the movement of fish, alter water temperature and flow, and change sediment transport patterns, all of which can have negative effects on plant and animal species in the area.

3. I agree with the way they handled the problem with the Elwha Dam in the video. Removing the dam allowed for the restoration of the natural river ecosystem and the return of salmon populations. This was a positive step towards repairing the damage caused by the dam and improving the overall health of the river and surrounding environment.
