According to Maslow's hierarchy of needs, physiological needs must be met before other needs can be achieved. These needs include food, water, shelter, sleep, and physical health. Only once these basic physiological needs are met can an individual move on to fulfilling needs higher up on the hierarchy such as safety, love and belonging, esteem, and self-actualization.
