Throughout this unit you have regularly reflected on your own aesthetic preferences. In Lesson 4, you finalized the creation of a mood board as a way to organize and visualize your preferred artistic subjects, materials, methods, and messages. In this activity, you will finalize a portfolio of these preferences and create a single work of art that incorporates at least two of these interests. Use the following instructions, the Artist Self-Reflection Portfolio worksheet, and the Artist Self-Reflection Portfolio rubric to complete this amazing reflection of the young artist that you are!

Describe your mood board in the appropriate location of the Artist Self-Reflection Portfolio worksheet. Complete the description.
Spend some time thinking about who you are as an artist. Choose a subject for your final piece of the course and determine the materials and methods you will use to complete your work. Create a rough draft. For instance, you might create a mixed media collage or sketch that illustrates your dreams for the future. Or you might create a painting or series of photographs to raise awareness about an issue that is important to you.
Complete the final draft of your piece and fill in the description and reflection sections of the worksheet.

Describe and answer these questions
mood board:

What did you learn about your
preferred artistic subjects,
materials, methods, and the
messages your hope to send?

Final piece:

What message do you hope to
send? How have you used
elements such as color, balance,
rhythm, and repetition to
communicate this message? How
have you incorporated your artistic
preferences into your work?

Reflection:

What successes did you have?

What challenges did you face?Do you think your personal preferences as an artist will change as you age? What artistic skills do you hope
to learn and develop in the coming year?

My mood board consisted of images and quotes that reflect my love for nature, vibrant colors, and mixed media techniques. I learned that my preferred artistic subjects include landscapes, animals, and abstract shapes. I enjoy working with a variety of materials such as acrylic paint, watercolor, and collage. My methods often involve layering and texture to create depth in my work. The messages I hope to send through my art involve a sense of peace, appreciation for the beauty of the world, and a hint of mystery and intrigue.

For my final piece, I chose to create an abstract painting that incorporates elements of nature and vibrant colors. I used acrylic paint and collage techniques to create a piece that embodies the beauty of the natural world while also hinting at hidden depths and complexities. I used a balance of warm and cool colors to create a sense of harmony, and incorporated rhythmic patterns and repeated shapes to add movement and interest to the composition. I incorporated my artistic preferences by using a combination of painting and collage to create texture and layers that add depth to the piece.

One of the successes I had with this final piece was successfully incorporating my preferred artistic subjects and techniques into a single cohesive work. A challenge I faced was finding the right balance between the elements in the composition, as I tend to get easily overwhelmed with too many details. I think my personal preferences as an artist will continue to evolve as I age, but my love for nature and vibrant colors will always be a central theme in my work. In the coming year, I hope to learn and develop my skills in creating more dynamic compositions and experimenting with different mixed media techniques.
