If the characters in "The Lottery" were able to overcome their darker impulses, the villagers could have a conversation where they question the traditions and practices of the lottery. Mrs. Hutchinson could speak up, saying, "Why do we continue this senseless violence year after year? Can't we find a better way to bring our community together?" The other villagers could pause, considering her words, and begin to discuss alternative ways to maintain their traditions without harming anyone. As a result, they collectively decide to abolish the lottery and find more peaceful ways to unite as a community.
