The Geneva Accords were unsuccessful. This agreement aimed to temporarily divide Vietnam at the 17th parallel and hold nationwide elections to reunify the country. However, the French violated the accords by setting up a separate government in South Vietnam and refusing to hold elections. This led to increased tensions and ultimately, war between the French and Ho Chi Minh's forces.
