Phonology

Phonology is a branch of linguistics that studies the sound patterns of languages. It focuses on the ways in which sounds are used in language, including their production, distribution, and patterning. Phonologists analyze the distinctive sounds used in a language (its phonemes), as well as the rules and patterns governing how these sounds are used in speech. This can include studying aspects such as the sounds themselves, their pronunciation, stress patterns, and rhythm. Phonology is important for understanding the structure of language and how different sounds can convey meaning.
