Wasting 1/3 of our food has a significant negative environmental impact. When food is wasted, the resources used to produce that food, such as water, energy, and land, are also wasted. This contributes to unnecessary greenhouse gas emissions and loss of biodiversity. Additionally, when food waste ends up in landfills, it decomposes and releases methane gas, a potent greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change.
