In their study of anxious children, anxious parents, and cognitive behavioral therapy( CBT), Cobban, Dadds, and Spence(1998) found that

anxious children were more likely to have anxious parents compared to non-anxious children. Additionally, they found that cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) was effective in reducing anxiety symptoms in both anxious children and parents. This suggests that there may be a genetic or familial component to anxiety disorders, but that CBT can help both children and parents learn coping strategies to manage their anxiety.
