why do japanese kanji come out backwards?

Japanese kanji can appear to be written backwards to someone not familiar with the writing system because unlike Western languages, Japanese is typically written from top to bottom and right to left in vertical columns. This can give the appearance of the characters being "backwards" to those used to reading horizontal text from left to right. Additionally, some kanji characters are written in a different order of strokes compared to the Latin alphabet, which can further contribute to the perception of them being "backwards" to some people.
