John Locke was a thinker who had a big impact on the people who founded America. He had two ideas that were really important during the Enlightenment.

The first idea was that all people have natural rights that can't be taken away. We see this idea in the Declaration of Independence, where it says that we have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

The second idea was that governments should be based on a social contract, where the people agree to follow the laws in exchange for protection of their rights. This idea is in the Constitution, which sets up a system where the government has to follow certain rules and the people have a say in how things are run.
