Granite tors are natural rock formations that have been sculpted over millions of years through the processes of weathering and erosion. Initially, large masses of granite are uplifted deep within the Earth's crust through volcanic activity or tectonic movements. As these masses are exposed to the surface, they are subjected to various environmental conditions such as rainfall, freezing and thawing cycles, and wind abrasion. Over time, these processes cause the outer layers of the granite to weather away, leaving behind exposed resistant boulders that eventually form into the characteristic towering rock piles known as granite tors.
