Mexico's population is predominantly mestizo, which is a mix of indigenous and European ancestry. About 62% of the population identifies as mestizo, while around 21% are indigenous, primarily of Nahua, Maya, Zapotec, and Mixtec descent. White Mexicans make up around 9% of the population, while Afro-Mexicans account for about 1% of the population. There are also smaller populations of people of Asian descent, primarily Chinese and Japanese, as well as people of Middle Eastern and other backgrounds.
