Lessons plan for Grade 2

Subject: Science

Title: Plants and Their Needs

Objective: Students will be able to identify the basic needs of plants and understand how these needs are met.

Materials:
- Various types of plants
- Soil
- Watering can
- Sunlight
- Paper
- Crayons or markers

Introduction: (5 minutes)
- Begin the lesson by asking students what they know about plants. Discuss the different types of plants and where they can be found. Explain that plants, like all living things, have basic needs in order to survive.

Activity 1: Plant Needs (10 minutes)
- Show students the various types of plants and discuss the different parts (roots, stem, leaves). Ask students what they think plants need to survive. Write their answers on the board.
- Introduce the concept of plants needing water, sunlight, and soil to grow. Discuss why each of these elements is important for plant growth.

Activity 2: Plant Experiment (15 minutes)
- Divide students into small groups and provide each group with a small plant, soil, and a watering can. Have students plant the seed in the soil and water it.
- Place the plants in different areas of the classroom: one in direct sunlight, one in indirect sunlight, and one in a dark corner. Have students observe the plants over the next few days and record their observations in a journal.

Conclusion: (10 minutes)
- Have students come back together as a class to discuss their observations from the plant experiment. Ask students to share what they learned about the needs of plants and how they are met in different environments.
- Encourage students to draw a picture of a plant and label the different parts and their functions.

Assessment:
- Observe students during the plant experiment and their participation in class discussions to gauge their understanding of the basic needs of plants. Review students' journal entries for accurate observations and understanding of plant growth.
