The main reason why raising cattle contributes to global warming is because of the significant greenhouse gas emissions produced by the livestock industry, particularly methane. Cattle release methane through their digestive process, known as enteric fermentation, as well as through manure decomposition. Methane is a potent greenhouse gas that has a much higher global warming potential than carbon dioxide. Additionally, the deforestation and land conversion for cattle grazing and feed production also contribute to carbon dioxide emissions, further exacerbating climate change.
