1.1 Discuss five (5) defensive mechanisms

1. Denial: A person refuses to accept or admit a reality or truth that causes them distress. They may block out thoughts, feelings, or memories that are too difficult to process.

2. Rationalization: Justifying a behavior or action by creating logical explanations or excuses for it. This helps the person feel less guilty or responsible for their actions.

3. Projection: Attributing one's own negative feelings or traits onto someone else. This allows the person to avoid dealing with their own issues by projecting them onto others.

4. Repression: Pushing unwanted or painful thoughts, memories, or emotions into the unconscious mind. This defense mechanism helps protect the individual from experiencing overwhelming feelings.

5. Regression: Reverting back to an earlier stage of development in order to cope with stress or anxiety. This could involve behaving in a childlike or immature manner in response to a difficult situation.
