Using the Tree Map from the previous question, and your knowledge of these events, were the main ideas of the compromises (Missouri Compromise, Compromise of 1850, & the Kansas Nebraska Act) successful as they tried to balance out free and slave states? Why or why not?

Think about what their outcomes were within the country.

Please answer the question using the RADD method in 4-5 complete sentences, in your own words, with at least 2-3 examples to support your argument.

The main ideas of the compromises were only partially successful in balancing free and slave states. While the Missouri Compromise temporarily maintained a balance by admitting Missouri as a slave state and Maine as a free state, it ultimately failed to address the root issue of slavery. The Compromise of 1850 attempted to appease both sides by admitting California as a free state and implementing the Fugitive Slave Act, but tensions continued to rise leading to the outbreak of the Civil War. The Kansas-Nebraska Act further divided the nation by allowing each territory to decide on the issue of slavery through popular sovereignty, resulting in violent conflicts such as "Bleeding Kansas." Overall, these compromises failed to fully resolve the issue of slavery and ultimately contributed to the deepening divide between the North and the South.
