Why was Creative Commons established?

Creative Commons was established to provide an alternative to traditional copyright laws and to promote the legal and easy sharing of creative and educational works. It was founded on the idea that creators should be able to choose how their works are used and shared, and that the public should have greater access to knowledge and cultural resources. By providing a set of standardized licenses that creators can use to easily share their works with the public, Creative Commons aims to foster a more open and collaborative creative community.
