Epistemicide is the act of erasing or suppressing a certain knowledge system or way of knowing, often as a result of colonization or domination by a more powerful group. This term was coined by Brazilian educator and philosopher Boaventura de Sousa Santos in his book "Epistemologies of the South: Justice Against Epistemicide." Sousa Santos argues that epistemicide not only destroys knowledge but also perpetuates systems of inequality and injustice.
