The first British settlers Australia

arrived in January 1788 as part of the First Fleet, led by Captain Arthur Phillip. The fleet consisted of 11 ships carrying around 1,500 convicts, as well as naval officers, marines, and their families. They landed at Port Jackson, now known as Sydney, and established the first European settlement in Australia. Over time, more settlers arrived from Britain and other countries, leading to the colonization and eventual establishment of modern-day Australia.
