Islam influenced the Songhai Empire by being the prominent religion practiced by the ruling elite and many of the population. Islamic laws, customs, and practices were incorporated into the governance and daily life of the empire. Additionally, the introduction of Arabic script led to the spread of literacy and knowledge among the population.
