The American troops were stationed in Lebanon as part of a multinational peacekeeping force deployed to help maintain stability and provide humanitarian assistance during the Lebanese Civil War. The troops were sent to Lebanon in order to try and bring an end to the conflict and support the Lebanese government in restoring order and security to the country.
