World War 1 began in 1914 and lasted until 1918. It was fought between the Central Powers (Germany, Austria-Hungary, Ottoman Empire) and the Allied Powers (France, UK, Russia, United States). The war involved trench warfare, new technologies like tanks and poison gas, and ultimately resulted in the collapse of empires and the deaths of millions of people.
