Use an example to explain how we see an object's color. Be sure to use these terms in your answer:

transmission
reflection
absorption

When we see an object's color, it is because of the way light interacts with its surface. For example, let's take a red apple.

When white light, which contains all the colors of the spectrum, hits the apple, the apple's surface absorbs some of the light and reflects the rest. In the case of the red apple, the surface absorbs most of the colors of the spectrum except for red. The red light is reflected off the surface of the apple and into our eyes.

So, in this example, the apple's surface absorbs all colors of the spectrum except red, which is why we perceive the apple as red. The absorbed colors are not transmitted through the apple, but rather they are absorbed and the red light is reflected, allowing us to see the red color of the apple.
