The origins of Islam can be traced back to the Arabian Peninsula in the 7th century. Islam was founded by the Prophet Muhammad, who is believed to have received revelations from God through the angel Gabriel. These revelations were later compiled into the holy book of Islam, the Quran. Islam quickly spread throughout the Arabian Peninsula and eventually across the Middle East and beyond. Islam emphasizes monotheism, charity, prayer, fasting, and pilgrimage to Mecca as the Five Pillars of Islam.
