Questions to consider:
What is the best thing about your new land? Did you win it in a land race? What has been the most difficult part of homesteading? Do you think you will make it five years in the West? Was it worth it?

Write at least 80 words.

Dear Friend,

I hope this letter finds you well. The Homestead Act has provided my family and me with 160 acres of free land out West. The best thing about our new land is the beautiful scenery and fresh air. We did win it in a land race, which was quite a thrilling experience. The most difficult part of homesteading has been the harsh weather conditions and the hard work required to make the land livable. However, we are determined to stay the five years and make this land our own. Despite the challenges, it has been worth it to have our own piece of land to call home.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]
