Explain the purpose of Reconstruction. Describe the difference between Lincoln’s plan and the plan implemented by the Radical Republicans. (Like an 8th grader)

The purpose of Reconstruction was to bring the Southern states back into the Union after the Civil War and to rebuild the country after years of conflict.

Lincoln's plan, known as the 10% plan, was more lenient and forgiving towards the Southern states. Under Lincoln's plan, a state could rejoin the Union if just 10% of its voters took an oath of loyalty to the United States. He also wanted to offer amnesty to most former Confederates.

On the other hand, the Radical Republicans in Congress wanted a more strict and punitive approach to Reconstruction. They believed that the Southern states needed to be punished for their roles in the war and that African Americans should be given more rights and protections. They wanted to implement laws and policies that would ensure equality and justice for all citizens, especially African Americans.
