The first civilization in South Asia developed in the region known as the Indus Valley, which is now part of modern-day Pakistan and northwest India. This civilization, known as the Indus Valley Civilization or Harappan Civilization, emerged around 3300 BCE and thrived until around 1300 BCE. It was one of the world's earliest urban civilizations, with advanced city planning, technology, and trade networks.
