Muhammad did not physically change the Kaaba but he did restore it to its original purpose of monotheistic worship. Before Islam, the Kaaba was a center of pagan worship with numerous idols and statues inside. Muhammad removed all the idols and rededicated the Kaaba to the worship of the one true God, Allah. This act of purifying the Kaaba from idol worship and establishing it as a center of monotheistic worship was a significant change brought about by Muhammad.
