Organelles reproduce during cell division, when a cell replicates its genetic material and divides into two daughter cells. During this process, organelles such as mitochondria and chloroplasts replicate alongside the DNA to ensure that each daughter cell receives a complete set of organelles. Organelles can also replicate independently of cell division in certain circumstances to meet the metabolic and energy requirements of the cell.
