Replicates linear chromosomes

Prokaryotic, eukaryotic or both

Both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells replicate linear chromosomes. In prokaryotic cells, such as bacteria, replication proceeds bidirectionally from a single origin of replication, resulting in two circular daughter chromosomes. In eukaryotic cells, replication occurs bidirectionally from multiple origins of replication along linear chromosomes, resulting in two sister chromatids that make up a replicated chromosome.
