All About Squishy Squid

By Lydia Lukidis
in the article, "All About Squishy Squid," you learned that scientists have identified around 300 types of squid. You also learned that there could be as many as 200 types of squid that scientists haven't discovered yet.
On the lines below, describe why you think there might be so many species of squid that we still don't know about. Think
about what you read in the article about where squid live and their different traits as you compose your answer.

I think there might be so many species of squid that we still don't know about because squid can live in a wide range of environments, from shallow coastal waters to the deep sea. With such a vast and diverse habitat, it's very possible that there are still undiscovered species living in remote areas of the ocean. Additionally, squid have various adaptations and traits that allow them to thrive in different conditions, making it easier for them to evolve and develop into new species without being easily recognized by scientists. Their ability to camouflage, change color, and even emit bioluminescence could also make them harder to study and classify. Overall, the mysterious nature of the deep sea and the unique characteristics of squid make it likely that there are many undiscovered species waiting to be found.
