I also decided to join a fitness club in order to feel better and I decided to walk in

the neighbourhood on a regular basis to meet new people. In addition, I decided to
design an online course, join the university in raising up and celebrating old and new
courses and publications, work with students via distance learning, mentor new faculty
members and share my talents with my grown children or grandchildren. Although I
suffered career and personal setbacks in my life, the counsellor helped me to recognise
that the right attitude could help me find meaning in my life. Workplace fulfilment is not
dependent on the work I do. The meaning I attach to the work and the value the work has
for me determine my sense of inner fulfilment.
I now understand that in the past I used adversity as a leverage for success — I didn’t
measure success by how much I had achieved but by the obstacles I had overcome to get
where I was. I now view life as a task. Life challenges us, but with a mission and clear life
purpose, life becomes fulfilling. By clarifying the purpose of my life and the meaning of my
circumstances, I found new meaning and energy to live a fulfilling life. I now teach with greater
motivation and peacefulness and the students respond positively to my efforts. I often return
from my lectures with more energy than before I started with the lecture. Life is great!
