One group in the Middle East is the Sunni Muslims, who believe that religious leaders should have a role in government, but that political leaders should ultimately make the decisions. Another group is the Shia Muslims, who believe that religious leaders should have full control over the government. This conflict started after the death of the Prophet Muhammad, when there was a disagreement over who should lead the Muslim community. This conflict continues today as Sunni and Shia Muslims often have tensions and conflicts in countries like Iraq and Iran.
