What is gastrectomy

Gastrectomy is a surgical procedure that involves the partial or complete removal of the stomach. It is most commonly performed to treat stomach cancer, as well as other conditions such as ulcers, noncancerous tumors, or severe obesity. Depending on the extent of the removal, the surgeon may reattach the remaining part of the stomach to the small intestine or create a new small pouch to serve as a substitute for the removed stomach. This procedure can have significant effects on the patient's digestion and eating habits, and may require dietary modifications and lifestyle changes post-surgery.
