Myrtle's situation can be described as situational irony. She constantly seeks after a higher social status and becomes involved in an extramarital affair in order to achieve that. However, her actions ultimately lead to her death when she is hit by a car driven by Daisy Buchanan, wife of the man with whom Myrtle is having an affair. This outcome is ironic because Myrtle's pursuit of a higher social status ultimately leads to her downfall.
