Where is Romeo during Act IV of Romeo and Juliet?

In Act IV of Romeo and Juliet, Romeo is not physically present on stage. He has been banished from Verona in Act III after killing Juliet's cousin, Tybalt. Therefore, during Act IV, Romeo is either in Mantua, where he was sent into exile, or in hiding. Juliet goes to Friar Lawrence's cell seeking his help and they devise a plan together, but Romeo is not directly involved in the events of this act.
