The oath of allegiance that immigrants must pledge when becoming an America citizen is a promise to

support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and to bear true faith and allegiance to the same. It also requires immigrants to bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law, perform non-combatant service in the Armed Forces when required by the law, as well as perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law.
