The islands of Hawaii were formed through volcanic activity. They were created over millions of years as magma erupted from the Earth's mantle and solidified to form islands. As the Pacific tectonic plate moved across a hotspot of volcanic activity, a chain of islands was formed. The oldest island in the chain, Kauai, is about 5.5 million years old, while the youngest island, Hawaii (also known as the Big Island), is still actively growing due to ongoing volcanic eruptions. Each island in the Hawaiian archipelago was formed by a different volcanic eruption, and as the tectonic plate continued to move, the hotspot created new volcanic activity and formed new islands.
