Mention two differences between the xylem cell and the phloem cell

1) Structure: Xylem cells are dead at maturity and have thick secondary cell walls made of lignin, which provides strength and support. Phloem cells, on the other hand, are living cells at maturity and do not have lignified walls.

2) Function: Xylem cells transport water and minerals from the roots to the rest of the plant. They are involved in water transport and provide mechanical support. Phloem cells, on the other hand, transport organic compounds such as sugars and amino acids throughout the plant. They are responsible for the translocation of food materials.
