The project for Unit 9 of the East Asia course is to choose one of the two options provided - Option 1 focuses on Chinese innovations and Option 2 focuses on Feudal Society in Medieval Japan.
For Option 1: Chinese Innovations, you will start by reading about Chinese innovations in the textbook (pages 508-510 or Topic 12 Lesson 3 of the online textbook). Reflect on the inventions created by the Chinese as you read.
Next, you will review the video on Chinese Innovations and create a tree map that names 5 innovations invented by China. You should provide details for each innovation. You can use the provided video resources and your textbook for this task, no outside sources are allowed.
After completing the thinking map, you will proceed to write a two-paragraph review that describes the innovations of China and how those innovations impact us today. The first paragraph should describe the innovations developed in ancient China, while the second paragraph should describe how those innovations impact us today. Each paragraph should have a minimum of 6 sentences and follow the given format (topic sentence, 4 supporting sentences, and a concluding sentence). You are only allowed to use your textbook and provided video resources, no outside sources.
Finally, you need to submit the thinking map and the Chinese Innovation two-paragraph review in the dropbox for the Unit 9 project.
For Option 2: Japanese Feudal Society, you will start by reading about Feudal Society in Medieval Japan in the textbook (pages 522-526 or Topic 12 Lesson 5 of the online textbook). Reflect on the roles in Feudal society in Medieval Japan as you read.
Next, you will review the video on Japanese Feudalism and create a tree map that names the roles of Japanese Feudalism. The roles include Emperor, Shogun, Daimyo, Peasant, and Samurai. You should provide details for each role. Again, you can use the provided video resources and your textbook, but no outside sources are allowed.
After completing the thinking map, you will proceed to create an imaginary Instagram account for each of the roles in feudal Japan. You should post an Instagram for each role, addressing a day in the life of that role. Each post should include an image that represents the role, 1-2 sentences describing the role, and 1-2 sentences addressing their opinions about the other social classes. You can also add relevant historical hashtags to make it fun.
Finally, you need to submit the thinking map and 5 Instagram images and posts in the dropbox for the Unit 9 project.
Make sure to refer to the rubric for a breakdown of how your project will be graded, and remember that this project aligns with specific content standards.
