Tuberculous mastitis

Tuberculous mastitis is a rare form of breast tuberculosis, which is caused by the bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It is a chronic infection that affects the breast tissue and can be characterized by the presence of a breast lump, breast pain, and nipple discharge. Tuberculous mastitis can occur in women who have a history of tuberculosis or have been exposed to someone with tuberculosis. It is usually diagnosed through a combination of clinical examination, imaging tests such as mammography or ultrasound, and laboratory analysis of breast tissue samples. Treatment typically involves long-term anti-tuberculosis medication and in some cases, surgery may be required to drain abscesses or remove affected tissue. Early diagnosis and treatment are essential to prevent complications and severe damage to the breast tissue.
