A carrier of a recessive disorder typically does not show any symptoms of the disorder themselves. However, carriers possess a gene mutation for the disorder in one of their gene pairs, and therefore have the potential to pass this gene mutation on to their offspring. If both parents are carriers of a recessive disorder, there is a 25% chance that their child will inherit the disorder.
